JULES UNDERSEA LODGE

The Only Underwater Hotel in the United States

KEY LARGO, FLORIDA

Located inside the lagoon at Jules' Undersea Lodge, this unique underwater hotel offers one of the most unusual overnight stays in the world.

Originally built as an underwater research laboratory in the 1970s, the structure was later transformed into a small underwater hotel where guests can sleep more than 20 feet beneath the surface of the water.

Unlike other underwater hotels that are accessed through elevators or staircases, guests must scuba dive down to the entrance hatch to reach the lodge.

Once inside, however, the experience feels surprisingly comfortable — like a cozy underwater apartment surrounded by tropical fish.

Diving Into Your Hotel Room

The lodge sits approximately 21 feet below the surface in a protected lagoon.

Large round windows allow guests to watch tropical fish swimming past while relaxing inside the habitat.

The lodge includes:

• two bedrooms
• a small kitchen area
• a living room with underwater viewing windows

Because the structure functions like an artificial reef, marine life naturally gathers around the lodge, creating constantly changing underwater scenery.

One of the most unique parts of the experience is how guests enter the hotel.

Instead of walking through a front door, visitors scuba dive down through the lagoon to reach the underwater entrance hatch.

After swimming inside the habitat, guests remove their diving gear and enjoy a dry, pressurized environment inside the lodge.

The unusual entrance makes the stay feel like something straight out of an underwater adventure movie.

The underwater structure was originally built as a marine research habitat called La Chalupa Research Laboratory.

It was later relocated to Key Largo and transformed into a unique underwater lodge experience.

Today it remains one of the very few places in the world where guests can truly live underwater overnight.

Because the lodge sits inside a protected lagoon ecosystem, guests often see:

• angelfish
• barracuda
• tropical reef fish
• curious marine creatures attracted by the lights at night
